Food for Thought….
The food we eat and how we produce it determines the health of people and the planet, and we are currently getting this seriously wrong.
~Professor Tim Lang, City, University of London, UK.
I hear the following from my clients all the time:
Ok. Here’s my simple answer:
Prioritize EATing FOODs that give you a YES on both of these questions:
Does it come from a sustainable system that operates with consideration for our planet?
Does it support your body and help it operate efficiently?
This will look different for everyone. As my own guinea pig I’ve discovered when I eat a variety of plant-based foods and low amounts of everything else (such as animal-based foods, refined grains, highly processed foods, added sugars) my body feels supported. If I have a sense of knowing and trusting where my food is coming from, I feel at ease. I make food choices that support our planet, because it feels good. There is so much information out there on what to eat and what not to eat! Start with the basics and grow from there. Research shows:
A High Quality Diet Can Lower Type II Diabetes Risk
There is a lot of debate about whether low carb or low-fat diets are best for diabetes prevention. A study of over 45,000 participants, followed for an average of 11 years, found that pretty much any dietary pattern high in fruits and veggies and low in red meat reduced risk.
Believe in the bodies ability to heal! Cut out the crap (sugar and processed food). Eat Real Food. Repair. Increase Resiliency. There are countless stories and research to support this. Read more on my story. What we feed the body matters!
Will we all eat the same? OR Should we? Absolutely NOT! We all have different motivations. Each of our bodies are at different places of resiliency, brokenness, and healing. More support is needed when we are trying to heal verses maintain. This simple answer is the absolute basis of which all personalized situations can build from. For those seeking to eradicate a particular diagnosis or address a medical concern, the answer warrants customized responses.
Always listen to your body. It’s an incredible machine that works relentlessly as we throw it curve balls. Be grateful for it. It has got you this far, trust that it will get you further when you support it, AND the earth we stand on…..
